Reminder: Those eligible for Medicare, but choosing to delay their Social Security benefits until a later date (e.g., receiving 100% of their Social Security benefit at age 66), may request their Medicare monthly premium payments be billed by CMS and paid through Medicare Easy Pay. See below for details. For further guidance, please see www.Medicare.gov

Medicare Easy Pay

Medicare Easy Pay is a free, electronic payment option that allows people to have their Medicare premium payments automatically deducted from a savings or checking account each month.

As a sales agent, consumers entrust you with a great deal of their personal information. HIPAA information is sensitive and should be kept confidential and only disclosed as needed in order to prevent fraud or misuse. This information specifically includes Protected Health Information (“PHI”) and Personal Identifiable Information (“PII”). The information can be in any form including oral, written or electronic.

Who can sign up for Medicare Easy Pay?

Anyone who gets a bill for their Medicare premiums from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) can sign up at anytime.

Note: If you get your bill from the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB), the payment options explained on this page don’t apply to your situation. You or your bank must mail your payments to:
RRB, Medicare Premium Payments
P.O. Box 979024
St. Louis, MO 63197-9000

How do I sign up?

Mail a completed Authorization Agreement for Pre-authorized Payments form [PDF, 117 KB] (SF-5510) to:
Medicare Premium Collection Center
PO Box 979098
St. Louis, MO 63197-9000

What happens once I sign up?

The government will process your form once they get it. Sometimes this can take 6-8 weeks. If the government can’t process your MEP application, they will return your form to you with a letter explaining why.

Two things will happen each month after your request is processed by the government:
1. You’ll get the “Medicare Premium Bill” [PDF, 567KB] stating “This is not a bill” and letting you know that the premium will be deducted from your bank account.
2. The government will deduct your premium from your bank account usually on the 20th of the month. It will appear on your bank statement as an “Automated Clearing House (ACH)” transaction.

The government will only try to deduct your premium once each month. If your bank rejects or returns your premium deduction, they will send you a letter with instructions on how to make a direct payment to Medicare.

Do I need to do anything when my premium amount changes?

No, the government will automatically deduct the new premium amount from your bank account.

What if I want to change bank accounts or stop Medicare Easy Pay?

Complete another Authorization Agreement for Pre-authorized Payments form [PDF, 117 KB] (SF-5510), and indicate the type of change you want to make. Then mail the completed form to the address above.
