It is important to remember when completing an application, whether an e-app or paper application, the applicant must sign the documents.  Signing and initialing on behalf of an applicant, even with the intent to be helpful, may possibly be considered fraud.

FRAUD

Reminder – as an agent, you may NOT:

  • Erase/remove another agent’s e-app/paper app signature and replace it with their own
  • Erase/remove and replace an e-app/paper signature date with a current date
  • Sign for a consumer – e-app or paper application
  • Initial for a consumer – e-app or paper application

Electronic Application Signature Requirements:

At the time of carrier contracting, make sure you fully understand all electronic application signature requirements.  Signature verification guidelines differ by carrier, and if the sales presentation is face-to-face vs. a telephonic presentation.  If you are not sure, contact the carrier for clarification.
