Medicare Easy Pay

Medicare Easy Pay is a free, electronic payment option that allows people to have their Medicare premium payments automatically deducted from a savings or checking account each month.

Who can sign up for Medicare Easy Pay?

Anyone receiving a bill for their Medicare premiums from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) can sign up at any time.

How does a beneficiary sign up?

Mail a completed Authorization Agreement for Pre-authorized Payments Form (SF-5510) to:

What happens once they sign up?

The form will be processed once it’s received. Sometimes this can take 6-8 weeks. If the application cannot be processed, it will be returned with a letter of explanation.

Two things will happen each month after the request is processed;

  • A “Notice of Medicare Premium Payment Due” will be sent stating “This is not a bill” and will let the beneficiary know that the premium will be deducted from their bank account.
  • The premium will be deducted from the beneficiary’s bank account usually on the 20th of the month. It will appear on their bank statement as an “Automated Clearing House (ACH)” transaction.
  • Medicare will only try to deduct a premium once each month. If the bank rejects or returns the premium deduction, a letter will be sent with instructions on how to make a direct payment to Medicare.

Does the beneficiary need to do anything with the premium amount changes?

No, Medicare will automatically deduct the new premium amount from the bank account.

What if the Medicare beneficiary wants to change bank accounts or stop Medicare Easy Pay?

Complete another Authorization Agreement for Pre-authorized Payments Form (SF-5510), and indicate the type of change to be made. Then mail the completed form to the address above.
